Next Meeting, Tuesday, October 2, 7 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF LOCATION.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 2 at 7 pm. Instead of our usual location at St. Barnabas, we'll meet at Amnesty International's Toronto office at 1992 Yonge St. (just north of the Davisville subway station), 3rd floor, at 7 p.m. Aubrey Harris, Amnesty Canada's Coordinator of the Campaign to Abolish the Death Penalty, will make a 30 minute presentation on the death penalty question, followed by about 30 minutes of questions and discussion. Afterwards, we'll have our regular meeting.

Next Meeting, Tuesday, May 1, 6 p.m.
Our regular meeting at St. Barnabas is cancelled.
Instead we'll meet an hour earlier at Amnesty International's Toronto office at 1992 Yonge St. (just north of the Davisville subway station), 3rd floor. This will enable us to make the final plans for our fundraising auction to be held on May 9 at the Granite Brewery.
Afterwards, at 7 pm, we plan to stay on to hear Lhama Tso, wife of imprisoned Tibet filmaker and prisoner of conscience, Dhondup Wangchen and see the film, Freedom from Fear.
Everyone is welcome to attend this talk and film at 7 pm.

Card Writing Party - January 10
There will be no regular meeting in January.
Instead, we'll have our annual party (at Ken & Judy's this year) on Tuesday January 10, and write greeting cards to prisoners of conscience and human rights defenders.
AI Group 164's first regular meeting in 2012 will be held on Tuesday February 7 at 7 pm.

Enter through the gate at 171 Hampton Street along the west side of the church, the first gate past the playground. If no one's at the door to let you in, please knock.
Starting at 7 pm, Michael Ballin and Cara Gibbons, Mexico Coordinators for Amnesty Canada, will give a talk entitled Justice and Human Rights in a Period of Deepening Crisis in Mexico.
Michael Ballin lived in Mexico from 2000-2003 and has volunteered on local and national committees for Oxfam Canada since 1974. He is an enthusiastic supporter of Amnesty's Demand Dignity Campaign, generally and specifically in Mexico. He has professor emeritus standing at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, where he was an Associate Professor of English for 28 years.
Cara Gibbons just completed an M.A. degree in International Law and has worked on the case of Ines Fernandez Ortega and Valentina Rosendo Cantu, two women seeking justice against soldiers from the Mexican Army who allegedly raped them.

Card Writing Party
Instead of our regular January meeting, we will celebrate the start of the new year with a card writing party at Ken & Judy's on Tuesday, January 4, starting at 6 pm.
